How to Stop Late Night Overeating
Let's talk late-night overeating...
We've all done it, yeah?
Anytime I used to have a long, stressful day I'd come home, throw on my PJs, and settle into the couch to binge on a pack of Oreos while I watched Netflix... and I'd feel so damn guilty about it!
So the next day I'd tell myself "no eating after 7pm tonight, Lia", then 9pm would roll around and I'd find myself with cookies in hand AGAIN.
This went on for years before I was finally able to break the cycle.
Here's exactly how I did it...
How to Stop Overeating At Night
It only took two small tweaks to stop the late-night binges...
I'm gonna share them both with you cuz I know you're frustrated about this, just like I was, and ready for a change.
1. I changed my meal plan to include a late-night meal
Did you know eating at night isn't "bad"?? Calories can't tell time, so one Oreo is gonna be 40 calories at 9am and 40 calories at 9pm...
I had to let go of the idea that eating at night was gonna make me gain weight (cuz it's not true) and be proactive about planning out my meals in a way that made sense for ME.
If you know you always want to eat at night, plan for it
When I'm figuring out my day of food in the morning and laying it all out in MyFitnessPal (this is the app my clients and I use to track our food to make sure we're eating the right amount for our body & goals), I always plan for a tasty dessert cuz I know that's when I have cravings! And the goal is to set myself up for success.
Plus, if I know I get dessert tonight, tomorrow night, and every night after that, it makes it a million times easier to avoid overeating other treats throughout the day.
This protein ice cream is one of my faves cuz it's delicious and FILLING! Click here for the recipe
2. I made sure I was eating enough
If you're trying to eat super low-calorie and constantly feeling hungry, it's gonna be tough to say "no" to cravings that come up.
Did you know that 1,200 calories is the average nutritional requirement for a 2-year old??
Crazy, right? Meanwhile grown women are trying to eat 1,200 calories (or less) for weight loss. If you're over 5-feet tall, that goal is probably WAY too low which totally explains why you're hungry.
When I started macro-tracking and figured out the RIGHT amount of food to eat for my body to lose weight, I wasn't so ravenous at 9pm.
Dieting with higher calories is gonna get you to your goal a hell of a lot faster than eating super low calorie during the day and binging at night.
Consider that your under-eating sometimes leads you to overeat
